Athaide Municipal Library situated in the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC). When Goa was under the Portuguese regime, Dr. Jose Joaquim Borges D Azavedo constituted a committee, under which Athaide Library was established on
12th November, 1883.
Fr. Francis Athaide has devoted his life in imparting education to thousands of youth in Bardez and in his memory a library was named as Athaide Biblioteca (Athaide Library).
On 9th April 1897, the library was handed over to Camra de Bardez. After the liberation, Municipality Act came into force in 1968 and the library was taken over by Mapusa Municipal Council.
Library serves about 6598 members with total collection of 25129=00 books, 20 daily Newspaper and 50 Periodicals.
On 14th November 2007, the children’s corner was opened in the Library with assistance of Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata, where, Children’s Book, educational CDs and computers have been kept for the children.
Library has reference section, periodical section/ Newspaper Section, Children’s Corner Circulation Section for the benefit of readers.
Library is authorized with e-granthalaya, a digital agenda for Library automation and networking form National Informatics Centre.
- Library- Rules :- The use and lending out of books shall be regulated by the following rules, supplemented by such other rules, as may be in force from time to time.
- Hours of Opening :- The reading room will remain open from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on all week days except on Sunday & Monday morning and public holidays.
